This year we had the first BSides Latin America conference, which joined the efforts of many other BSides organizers around the region.

It was the last weekend of May and just like every year, hackers, forensic experts and pentesters met at the Universal Hall in Berlin for the BerlinSides conference.

Last week vulnerability developers, security researchers, and even a couple of friendly govies descended upon my native Miami for two daily servings of novel implants, exploits, and the latest in offensive research.

This year, we had the absolute pleasure of being a part of CanSecWest’s fantastic lineup of talks, well-rewarded pwnage, and entertainment among a jovial crowd of infosec practitioners of every stripe.

This week, a large fraction of the world’s top security professionals converge into the wonderful city of San Francisco for RSA Conference 2016. Spread across several halls and buildings, the event has grown to be a kind of “meet anyone” type of conference/show, where you can’t walk for more than a 100 meters without running into a friend, colleague or customer. Perhaps it is no surprise that due to the popularity of the RSA Conference, many companies choose to announce new products or discoveries here.

Virtualized environments are exceptionally flexible, manageable, fault-tolerant and cost-effective. However, a number of difficulties have to be overcome to protect them from external threats. If this is not done successfully, problems will inevitably arise.

Kaspersky Lab researchers presented a closing keynote and three other papers related to targeted attacks and APT research at Virus Bulletin 2015 in Prague.

The Hacker Halted USA event organized by the professional organization EC-Council is held once a year and it brings together technical experts in the field of information security as well as a business audience.

Another memorable installment of the Latin American Security Analysts Summit has come and gone! This time it was held in the exquisite city of Santiago de Chile, where journalists from all over the region were greeted by Kaspersky Lab’s research team for two full days of knowledge and a little bit of leisure.

The security giant Kaspersky Lab launched its lavish acceleration program and a team of mentors, including myself, took their seats on the front row, waiting for the most brilliant and innovative minds to take the stage and convince us that they deserve a spot in the Bootcamp.

“Indicators of compromise” help to use threat data effectively: identify malware and quickly respond to incidents. These indicators are very often included in threat reports. How should information system administrators use this data in practice?

Blackhat and Defcon 2015 are being held in Las Vegas this year in the Mandalay Bay and Paris hotels, with 9,000 people in Blackhat attendance and more at Defcon.

REcon 2015 was a great conference with many interesting talks and people. It is always great to meet other reverse engineers from all over the world and discuss new techniques, tools and research.

The past Saturday we had the privilege of participating in this year’s edition of “Nuit du Hack”, a French security conference.

This week we joined droves of vendors and executives in celebrating InfoSecurity Europe’s 20 year anniversary.
