In Q2 2016, the geography of DDoS attacks narrowed to 70 countries, with China accounting for 77.4% of attacks. In fact, 97.3% of the targeted resources were located in just 10 countries. The longest DDoS attack in the second quarter of 2016 lasted for 291 hours, which significantly exceeded the Q1 maximum of 197 hours.

Recently we revealed that a threat actors exploited social networks to spread a Trojan that captures a victim’s entire browser traffic. Approximately 10,000 Facebook users with Windows PCs were hit by malicious friend notifications. In this article we will explain the security issue and attack.

Cybercrime in Brazil has changed drastically in the last few years, as it shifted from simple keyloggers to tailored remote administration tools that can run a complete attack by using the victim machine. As we know, they are in touch with cybercriminals from Eastern Europe, mainly Russians.

In the third quarter of 2015 Kaspersky Lab solutions detected and repelled a total of 235,415,870 malicious attacks from online resources located all over the world. There were 5,686,755 registered notifications about attempted malware infections that aim to steal money via online access to bank accounts.

Intelligence services are not giving any clues how they identify cybercriminals who act anonymously. This may mean that the implementation of the Tor Darknet contains some vulnerabilities and/or configuration defects that make it possible to unmask any Tor user. In this research, we will present practical examples to demonstrate how Tor users may lose their anonymity.

One popular DDoS scenario is a botnet-assisted attack. In Q1 2015, 23,095 botnet-assisted DDoS attacks were reported. These statistics refer to those botnets which were detected and analyzed by Kaspersky Lab.

Kaspersky Lab was involved in botnet takedown operation. Preliminary analysis of some of the sinkholed server logs revealed a list of 190 countries affected by the Simda botnet.
